The first three seconds of a video: build a useful opening

Plan a clear visual question, action or result, then test the opening in context rather than promising a universal engagement formula.

An opening should tell a viewer what deserves attention. Start with a visible subject and an understandable reason to keep watching: a question, a change or a useful result. “Three seconds” is a planning focus, not a guaranteed threshold for conversion.

Choose the point of interest

Write the main idea in one sentence before generating footage. A product benefit, a surprising visual change and a practical question require different openings. Avoid beginning with a long logo reveal unless the brand itself is the point.

Make the subject readable in the intended aspect ratio. Leave room for captions and check the frame on a small screen, where a visually rich background can obscure the action.

Draft three different structures

Use different structures instead of changing only the adjectives in the same shot. One version can show the problem, another can begin with the result and a third can ask a specific question.

These are creative hypotheses. Choose the version that makes sense for the audience and the rest of the video, then evaluate actual performance when reliable data is available.

  • Problem first: show the relevant difficulty clearly.
  • Result first: show what the viewer will learn or receive.
  • Question first: use a visual that makes the question understandable without a long explanation.

Generate the shot you need

Describe one action and a camera move that supports the focal point. Avoid cramming a before/after transformation, several viewpoints and a spoken pitch into one short generation.

Add exact prices, claims, captions and required brand elements in an editor. Review any generated product detail before using the shot in advertising.

Judge the opening inside the whole video

Watch the cut with captions and sound, then without sound. Check whether the opening prepares the next scene and whether the message remains understandable on mobile.

Do not declare a version better from a few views or a striking first frame. Keep the creative comparison separate from evidence about retention, clicks or payments.

Choose a relevant model

Use the current model and settings in the studio. The total cost of a usable result includes attempts, source preparation and any finishing edits.
