AI video upscaling: what it can improve and what it cannot fix
Evaluate resolution, invented detail, temporal stability and the final export before treating an upscaled clip as a better source.

Upscaling increases pixel dimensions and may reconstruct apparent detail. It does not recover a missing original scene with certainty. Decide whether the problem is low resolution, compression, movement, sound or a generation error before choosing a tool.
Diagnose the source first
Inspect the original at normal playback speed and at the intended viewing size. Low resolution, heavy compression and motion blur are different problems. Camera shake, wrong colours and distorted anatomy may need different corrections.
A sharper-looking frame can still contain invented texture. A larger export should not be described as an authentic recovery of fine details that were never visible in the source.
Test a representative excerpt
If a suitable upscaling tool is available, start with an excerpt containing faces, edges and movement typical of the full clip. Read its actual input and charging conditions before submitting.
Compare source and output at the same display size, then inspect at full output resolution. Watch for shimmering edges, changed facial features and detail that appears in one frame but disappears in the next.
Use the right repair for each defect
Stabilise unwanted camera movement in an editor if necessary. Correct colour with a controlled grading step. Replace or revise a generated scene when its action or anatomy is wrong; adding pixels does not make that action correct.
Handle speech noise, missing dialogue and music separately. Do not assume an image-processing model repairs sound or preserves every original track. Verify the downloaded file’s duration and audio.
Upscale only accepted material
Make the rough edit and reject broken clips before processing the complete project. Keep the untouched originals and compare the final compressed export, since delivery compression may remove much of the apparent improvement.
Compare the total cost with generating a suitable source at a supported higher resolution. Neither route is automatically cheaper or better. Choose the result that meets the actual viewing requirement.
Choose a relevant model
Use the current model and settings in the studio. The total cost of a usable result includes attempts, source preparation and any finishing edits.
